I admire him

this man who acts

who takes a beating in the service of

who speaks in a big gathering voice

I admire him

but before Y wakes

I must ensure this ant

exploring the banister

has made it safely to the garden

Let’s not kid ourselves

I am in most ways a complacent coward

See how the creature

realigns its antenna before setting off again

back towards my porch
